This is an editable general purpose
field
that can be drag-dropped into the template's Workspace and defined as to its Attributes, Style,
text Input options (if applicable), Lists utilization (if applicable), Security - Access and Protection through
the use of the Inspector. The default data type is Text of 40 characters Maximum.
Adding Data fields as Local or Linked fields to the Template
Data fields can be brought into a template in one of three ways:
- As local fields: data will be stored in the database table being created
according to the Inspector defined template model by dragging Data fields from
the Draggable objects of the Palette.
- As linked fields: data will be referenced in the template-created
table to the database table in which the linked data is stored (this reference
can
be for multi-level links), Data types are inherited. The most common
method of creating a link is to select the Palette view of the table
that carries the source data, select the desired field icon in the Grab column
and drag into the Workspace.
- As pre-existing fields: these are recorded in the General view
of the Palette and its Data types are inherited. The Grab field
will be initially brought into the Workspace as a native field (the Inspector's
Link to source will be set to None (allocate locally);
however, if the pre-existing field is used in other Global tables,
then the available link options will be shown in the Link to source (to
change a pre-existing field from a native field to a linked field, simply
select the applicable link
option).
